Grannie’s Homemade Fudge
If you have a sweet tooth you are going to want to make this homemade fudge! I think this is the best fudge recipe I have. Here where I live it seems to be a tradition to make it at Halloween time. We are in a rural area so we have to drive our kids around trick or treating, so when the kids go to the door for their treats some house have fudge made for the adults. It is great but be careful you do not eat too much…I know I can’t stop eating it sometimes 🙂
- 1 Cup White Sugar
- 1 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1/3 Cup Corn Syrup
- 4 Tbsp Butter
- 1/2 Cup Milk
- 1/2 tsp Salt
Combine everything into a saucepan except vanilla.
Cook slowly, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved and the mixture begins to boil.
Then cook more rapidly stirring occasionally until a little of the mixture tested in cold water forms a hard ball (not brittle). Let cool for a minute.
Add vanilla and nuts if desired. Stir until creamy and then pour into greased dish. Let cool to harden.
For chocolate fudge add 3 tbsp cocoa to mixture.
Combine everything into saucepan and heat slowly until everything is melted.
Then boil more rapidly stirring occasionally. Put cold water in a mug and drip some of the sauce into the cold water, using your fingers try to roll mixture into a ball. It may be to soft the first few times and just turn to mush. Each time rinse cup out and put more cold water in.
